Manipur police arrest couple in Tamil Nadu Express suitcase murder case

Police have arrested a couple in Manipur's Jiribam district in connection with the dismembered remains of a woman found in a suitcase aboard the Tamil Nadu Express. The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Manik Uddin Laskar and his 21-year-old wife Bhagabati Majhi (also known as Ayesha Begum), were apprehended following a joint operation between Tamil Nadu and Manipur police.

The investigation began on August 5 when passengers at Agra Cantonment reported a foul odor coming from a red trolley bag in a general coach. Upon inspection, railway police discovered the dismembered, headless remains of a woman. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Hayathun Nisha from Odisha, who had been working near Chennai.

Investigators traced the crime back to Tamil Nadu using CCTV footage and a package from a Chennai cloth shop found inside the suitcase. Further evidence was recovered from a rented house in Guduvanchery. The suspects have been flown to Chennai and handed over to the Tambaram police for further questioning and legal formalities.
