Chennai murder investigation and Manipur arrests

Authorities have arrested a couple in Manipur’s Jiribam district in connection with the murder of Hayathun Nisha, a 38-year-old woman who worked near Chennai.

The investigation was triggered on August 5 when passengers on the Tamil Nadu Express reported a foul odor coming from a suitcase at Agra Cantonment. Railway police discovered the dismembered, headless remains of the victim inside the bag. Investigators used CCTV footage and a package from a Chennai cloth shop to trace the crime back to Tamil Nadu, where additional body parts were recovered from a rented house in Guduvanchery.

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Manik Uddin Laskar and his 21-year-old wife Bhagabati Majhi, were apprehended during a joint operation between Tamil Nadu and Manipur police. Reports indicate the suspects allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by cooking parts of the body in a biryani pot. The motive is believed to be a dispute regarding an extramarital affair between Laskar and the victim. The couple has been transferred to the Tambaram police in Chennai for further questioning.
