Manipur security forces apprehend insurgents and seize large arms caches
Security forces in Manipur have conducted multiple operations resulting in the apprehension of suspected insurgents and the seizure of significant weapon caches.
In an intelligence-based operation, the Assam Rifles and state police apprehended five suspected members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) in the Ukhrul district. These individuals are believed to be part of the G-5 conglomerate, an alliance of five insurgent groups. While the UNLF signed a peace agreement with the government in 2023, officials stated that certain factions continue to engage in extortion, threats, and recruitment for training camps in Myanmar.
In a separate incident in Imphal West, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL). During the operation, authorities seized a large consignment of sophisticated weaponry, including an M4 rifle, an AK-56 rifle, a Light Machine Gun, a 51 mm mortar, and various explosives and grenades. Additionally, a joint operation between the Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force recovered further arms and ammunition along the Kangpokpi-Tamenglong axis.
