Manipur security forces kill two UKNA militants in Churachandpur
Two militants from the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) were killed during a counter-insurgency operation in the Churachandpur district of Manipur. The operation, conducted by a joint team of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, targeted a UKNA camp near Phaibung village in the Henglep subdivision.
The engagement began in the early hours of September 2 following intelligence regarding the group's presence. Security forces reported a high-intensity firefight after the militants opened fire on the approaching troops. In addition to the two fatalities, two other militants were reportedly injured.
Following the exchange, security forces searched the camp and recovered a significant cache of weapons and military supplies. Seized items included automatic rifles, a 40mm Lathode gun, grenades, and various rounds of ammunition. The camp was subsequently destroyed by the joint team. The UKNA is a banned group that has not signed any suspension of operations agreement with the government and has been seeking a separate union territory or homeland.
