Manipur: Three killed in suspected militant attack on Kuki village

Three Kuki civilians, including two women, were killed and four others injured during an attack by suspected militants in the N. Teikhang village of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday. The attackers reportedly used sophisticated weapons and set several houses on fire, forcing villagers to flee into nearby forests.

This incident follows a recent ambush on the Imphal-Tamenglong road that killed four Naga civilians, marking a rise in tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities. Since February, the Kuki-Naga conflict has resulted in at least 34 deaths.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the violence, stating that the government will not tolerate such actions and that those responsible will be punished. Meanwhile, nine Naga MLAs have requested immediate intervention from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In response to the ongoing instability, the Union government has deferred the 2027 Census exercise in Manipur.
