Manisa enhances water resources and agricultural irrigation
Water management and agricultural infrastructure projects are undergoing significant developments in Manisa, Turkey. The Manisa Water and Sewerage Administration (MASKİ) has successfully completed 14 new drilling wells in the Şehzadeler and Yunusemre districts. This initiative has added 400 liters per second of drinking water to the system, aimed at securing the water needs of central districts and strengthening local reserves.
In the agricultural sector, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality has launched a drip irrigation support program in Alaşehir. The project has distributed approximately 2.5 million meters of drip irrigation pipes to 1,159 farmers, covering 8,125 decares of land, with a total value of 13.2 million TL. This effort is part of a larger goal to distribute 13 million meters of piping across the province.
Additionally, the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), with support from the World Bank, has completed the first phase of the Alaşehir Irrigation Renewal Project. This phase introduced modern pressurized pipe irrigation to 28,780 decares of land. Once fully completed, the project is expected to increase annual agricultural income by 761 million TL by reducing costs and increasing crop yields.
