Turkish municipalities expand agricultural subsidies and public‑health pest control programs

Municipal governments across Turkey are rolling out a series of support initiatives for producers and residents. The Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality is providing livestock owners with 50 % grant‑funded milk‑cooling tanks and technical field visits. Ankara’s Metropolitan Municipality, led by Mayor Mansur Yavaş, is distributing 5,000 modern beehives to beekeepers in 25 districts with a 50 % subsidy, accompanied by training and research services. Erzurum’s Metropolitan Municipality, under Mayor Mehmet Sekmen, has deployed high‑capacity harvesters that can cut 10‑15 dekar per hour, lowering farmers’ costs and shortening harvest time. In Yüksekova, farmers have received state‑matched funding for greenhouse construction but report a lack of technical guidance. Parallel to agricultural aid, several cities—including Manisa, Konya, Bayrampaşa, Didim, and İnönü—are conducting continuous vector‑control campaigns, applying environmentally‑friendly insecticides against mosquitoes, flies, rodents and other pests in parks, green areas and public spaces. Additional municipal efforts involve regular maintenance of roads, sidewalks, park facilities and vehicle fleets to ensure uninterrupted public services. These programs aim to improve rural productivity, reduce production costs, protect public health and enhance the quality of urban environments.
