Manjeet Kaur: Indian influencer dies after being tied to tree and set on fire

Manjeet Kaur, a 28-year-old social media influencer in India, has died in a Chandigarh hospital following a brutal attack. Kaur succumbed to severe burns on August 26, 2026, after fighting for her life for over seven weeks.

The incident reportedly began on July 3, when Kaur was allegedly lured to a meeting by two acquaintances. She was then kidnapped and taken to a wooded area in Morinda, Punjab, where she was tied to a mulberry tree and set on fire. An acquaintance discovered her in flames and managed to extinguish the fire with a blanket before she was hospitalized.

An autopsy has revealed that Kaur was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time of the attack. While investigators have not confirmed a motive, Kaur's mother claims a man in her daughter's circle had been pressuring her regarding the pregnancy.

Police are currently investigating two suspects for kidnapping and murder and are reviewing surveillance footage. Meanwhile, the victim's family has leveled accusations against local authorities, claiming police failed to arrive in a timely manner to record Kaur's statement while she was briefly conscious during her treatment.
