Manjeet Kaur, a 28-year-old Punjabi social media influencer, died on August 26, 2026, at a Chandigarh hospital following severe burn injuries sustained during an alleged abduction and attack in July.

According to reports and a complaint filed by her mother, Kaur was lured to a meeting on July 3 by two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda. She was allegedly kidnapped and taken to a forested area near Morinda, Punjab, where she was tied to a mulberry tree and set on fire. An acquaintance discovered her and extinguished the flames with a blanket before she was hospitalized.

An autopsy revealed that Kaur was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time of the attack. Her mother has suggested that a man in Kaur’s social circle had been pressuring her regarding the pregnancy, though a motive has not been officially confirmed.

Chandigarh Police have registered a case for kidnapping, murder, and joint criminal liability. While investigators review CCTV footage and conduct raids to locate the suspects, the victim’s family has accused authorities of negligence, claiming police failed to promptly record Kaur’s statement when she briefly regained consciousness during her medical treatment.
