Manjit Singh Bedi extradited from India to face SNAP fraud charges
Manjit Singh Bedi, a 64-year-old grocery store owner from Kent, Washington, has been extradited from India to the United States to face fraud charges. Bedi, who operated the Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, was indicted in April for allegedly defrauding the U.S. of at least $600,000 in SNAP (food stamp) funds between 2024 and 2025.
After his indictment, Bedi was ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state, but he fled to India shortly after his initial court appearance. He was subsequently added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list. Following his arrest in India, Bedi was turned over to federal agents and arrived in the Western District of Washington on October 14.
Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd stated that prosecutors will seek to detain Bedi pending trial, citing his previous attempt to flee. Bedi is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Tacoma on October 16.
