Manoj Bajpayee seeks personality rights protection from Delhi High Court

Actor Manoj Bajpayee has approached the Delhi High Court seeking legal protection for his personality rights. The 57-year-old actor alleges that his image, voice, and identity are being used without authorization to promote products and through artificial intelligence tools.

One specific allegation involves H2PG Designs Private Limited, which Bajpayee claims used his photographs to create the false impression that he was wearing the company’s suits. Additionally, the petition addresses the use of AI to recreate his voice and the potential for AI chatbots to utilize identifiable aspects of his personality.

During the hearing, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav raised questions regarding jurisdiction, noting that Bajpayee is primarily based in Mumbai. Counsel for the actor argued that the court has jurisdiction because some of the defendants are located in Delhi. The judge suggested that such cases might be more efficiently handled by the Registrar in instances where defendants do not contest the claims, to avoid burdening the court with detailed hearings.
