Manoj Jarange-Patil continues Maratha reservation hunger strike
Manoj Jarange-Patil, a Maratha quota activist, is entering the fifth day of an indefinite hunger strike in Antarwali Sarati, Jalna district, demanding reservation benefits for the Maratha community.
Jarange-Patil has raised concerns regarding his health, specifically questioning fluctuations in his blood sugar readings. He has also accused the state government of attempting to incite riots and failing to engage in meaningful negotiations. He warned that if his demands—which include the issuance of Kunbi certificates and the implementation of the ‘Sage-Soyare’ notification—are not met, he will lead a march to Mumbai after September 12.
In response, state ministers have addressed the issue, with some suggesting the current crisis stems from historical failures to include Marathas in the 1994 Mandal Commission framework. While the government has indicated openness to discussing the legal validity of the quota, Jarange-Patil maintains that the administration is not acting positively despite the identification of 5.8 million relevant records.
