Manzanillo Gas & Power project reaches 66.9% execution

The Manzanillo Gas & Power project in Montecristi, Dominican Republic, has reached 66.9% execution. The energy infrastructure project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028.

Once operational, the facility will add 840 megawatts (MW) to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI), representing approximately 15% of the country's total installed capacity. The project consists of two combined-cycle blocks of 420 MW each.

Minister of Energy and Mines Joel Santos inspected the site, noting the project's role in meeting growing electricity demand and enhancing grid stability. Project General Manager Mónika Infante reported that the transmission line is 100% complete, while Power Block 1 is at 68% and Power Block 2 is at 64.5%.

The total investment exceeds $1.7 billion. Key upcoming milestones include the arrival of a vessel in November to be converted into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Maritime work is also progressing, with over 40% of necessary piling completed.
