Maple Leaf Foods Canada Bacon Recall Affects US Pacific Northwest

Maple Leaf Foods of Mississauga, Ontario, has recalled more than 12,000 pounds of smoked, uncured bacon imported from Canada after the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service found the product had not undergone the required import reinspection. The Class I recall covers Royale Natural Applewood Smoked and Top Valu Hardwood Smoked bacon sold in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. No illnesses have been reported, and officials advised consumers to discard the affected packages or return them to the point of purchase.

The recall follows the Trump administration’s announcement of a 50% tariff on many Canadian imports, which is set to take effect on August 19. The USDA discovered the violation during routine inspection activities and cautioned that the bacon lacked the USDA inspection mark that would have confirmed compliance.
