Maple Leaf Foods bacon recall

Maple Leaf Foods of Mississauga, Ontario, issued a voluntary Class I recall of more than 12,000 lb of smoked, uncured bacon imported from Canada and sold in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered that the product had not undergone the required import re‑inspection, lacking the USDA inspection mark. Consumers were instructed to discard or return the affected packages; no illnesses were reported.

A follow‑up notice three days later repeated the recall details, specifying the "Royale Natural Applewood Smoked" and "TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked" brands and citing the Canadian establishment number and health certificate linked to the shipment. The notice also noted the recall occurring amid a national cyclosporiasis outbreak, though no direct connection to the bacon was identified.
