MapQuest rejects name change for Lake Ontario

MapQuest General Manager Doug Berger visited Lake Ontario in Toronto to mark the company’s decision to maintain the traditional name of the Great Lake. The move follows an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump to rename the body of water to ‘Lake America.’

Berger stated that MapQuest chose to stick with the original name to ensure user familiarity and product integrity. The company noted that renaming the lake did not make sense given its location and its status as one of the Great Lakes. This decision follows a similar instance where MapQuest declined to adopt the ‘Gulf of America’ moniker after the President changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
