Mar del Plata celebrates 140 years of railway history

Mar del Plata and the town of Estación Camet are commemorating the 140th anniversary of the arrival of the railway in the region. The historical milestone, which dates back to September 1886, significantly transformed local communications and tourism development.

To celebrate, a special event featured the “Vulcan Foundry N. º 3925” steam locomotive, a British-made engine from the 1920s. The locomotive traveled from Constitución to Mar del Plata, making stops in Coronel Brandsen, Lezama, Dolores, and Maipú for water replenishment. The historic formation included nine vehicles, including preserved coaches from the Ferroclub Argentino and the National Railway Museum.

Estación Camet, located at kilometer 393 of Autovía 2, grew from the La Trinidad estate following the establishment of the train station. The area has since developed into a hub of industrial, commercial, and tourist enterprises, housing various local institutions such as schools, clubs, and libraries.
