María Corina Machado claims Venezuelan regime is blocking her return

Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado has stated from Panama that the administration of Delcy Rodríguez is actively working to prevent her return to Venezuela. Machado claims the government fears her ability to mobilize a unified citizenry toward a democratic transition.

During a visit to a humanitarian aid center in Panama following recent seismic activity, Machado noted that she is making every effort to overcome obstacles to her return. She highlighted that Panama currently holds election records that the opposition views as evidence of Edmundo González Urrutia’s victory in the July 2024 elections.

Reports suggest the Venezuelan government may be using indirect methods to block her travel. According to Venezuelan communicator Roberto Junior, authorities have allegedly threatened airlines with the loss of access to Venezuelan airspace if they permit Machado to board flights from Panama to Caracas. Previous attempts to return were reportedly hindered when landing permissions were denied in Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba.
