María Corina Machado maintains low profile in Panama amid opposition reorganization
Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado is maintaining a low profile in Panama as she prepares for a potential return to Venezuela. After several failed attempts to re-enter the country, Machado has been working cautiously to find the necessary conditions for her return.
While Machado remains abroad, her political party, Vente Venezuela, is undergoing a period of reorganization. Key members of the opposition are beginning to return to Venezuela following a limited democratic transition. Notable returns include Vente Venezuela’s communications director, Claudia Macero, and collaborator Omar González. Both were previously part of a group that sought refuge in the Argentine embassy to avoid arrest warrants. Their ability to return openly is viewed as a positive sign for the rebuilding of the opposition movement.
