María Jesús Montero named PSOE Senate adjunct spokesperson

María Jesús Montero, the current secretary general of the PSOE in Andalusia, was designated a senator by the Andalusian Parliament on 23 July. She will become an adjunct spokesperson of the Socialist group in the Spanish Senate, a role that takes effect on 1 August. The appointment follows the party’s practice that all members of the group’s direction serve as adjunct spokespersons, and it reflects Montero’s position as vice‑secretary general of the federal PSOE.

The Senate group’s leadership will be headed by Juan Espadas as spokesperson, with Alfonso Gil as secretary general and adjunct spokesperson. Other adjunct spokespersons will include César Mogo, María Fernández, Amparo Marco, Inma Sánchez and María Teresa Macías. Montero will hold the Senate post while retaining her leadership of the PSOE in the Andalusian Parliament; she is expected to take formal possession of her Senate seat in September, when the first plenary session is scheduled for 8–9 September.
