Andalusian PSOE Senate representation
Overview
In July 2026 the Andalusian branch of Spain’s Socialist Party (PSOE‑A) announced its slate of Senate candidates, naming party secretary‑general María Jesús Montero, Senate spokesperson Juan Espadas and former regional president Susana Díaz for the three seats allotted to PSOE‑A. The selections reflected the party’s performance in the May regional election and the coalition agreement with Vox that divided the region’s nine Senate seats between the People’s Party, Vox and PSOE‑A.
After the Andalusian Parliament confirmed the appointments, Montero was formally designated a senator on 23 July and, on 1 August, took up a leadership role within the Socialist Group in the Spanish Senate as an adjunct spokesperson. The Senate group’s leadership is headed by Espadas as spokesperson, with Alfonso Gil as secretary general and adjunct spokesperson, and adjunct spokespersons César Mogo, María Fernández, Amparo Marco, Inma Sánchez and María Teresa Macías. Montero will combine the Senate position with her duties as leader of the PSOE in the Andalusian Parliament and as vice‑secretary general of the federal PSOE. She is expected to take formal possession of her Senate seat during the first plenary session on 8–9 September, after which the three PSOE senators will continue to represent Andalusia in the upper chamber.
