Maracaibo installs statue honoring baseball legend Luis Aparicio
The Maracaibo Mayor's Office has installed a bronze statue honoring Venezuelan baseball legend Luis Aparicio Montiel on El Milagro Avenue. Located in the Santa Lucía parish, the site marks the birthplace of the Hall of Fame inductee.
The two-meter-tall sculpture was created by 17-year-old Venezuelan artist Josué Benjamín Figueroa Torres using rods, mud, and clay before its final casting. This monument is the first of two planned statues; a second is expected to be placed in a museum within the Alejandro Borges Stadium.
The installation is part of a broader municipal project that includes the restoration of the Alejandro Borges Stadium, featuring improvements to the entrance, walls, and seating areas. Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino stated the initiative fulfills a long-standing desire of the local community to honor the athlete, who is the only Venezuelan in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
