Maracaibo mayor addresses flood damage and social recycling initiatives

Maracaibo Mayor Giancarlo Di Martino has reported significant structural damage in the city following intense rainfall caused by the ‘El Súper Niño’ weather phenomenon. The flooding, which resulted from collapsed drainage systems, most severely impacted the El Varillal sector. As a preventive measure to ensure public safety, the mayor has ordered the demolition of certain commercial structures, including parts of the Hotel Granada, which were identified as high-risk to pedestrians.

In a separate municipal effort, the Maracaibo Mayor's Office, through the Municipal Fund for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, and Youth, is conducting a plastic cap recycling campaign. The initiative aims to collect 2.5 tons of plastic caps by December 31 to fund social programs. Currently, approximately 800 kilograms have been collected. The funds generated will support various services, including the Niños del Sol Foundation school cafeteria, psychopedagogical care at the Family Orientation Center, medical consultations, and the network of shelter homes.
