Maracaibo unveils monument to baseball legend Luis Aparicio

The Maracaibo Mayor's Office has officially unveiled a monument dedicated to Luis Aparicio, the legendary Venezuelan baseball player and the only countryman inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at the newly named Plaza Luis Aparicio Montiel, located on El Milagro Avenue at the entrance of the Santa Lucía parish, the birthplace of the historic shortstop.

The sculpture, created by artist Josué Benjamín Figueroa, stands over two meters tall. The event was attended by local authorities, including First Lady Ana Clara Barboza de Di Martino, and the player's son, Nelson Aparicio.

This tribute is part of a broader municipal heritage and sports rescue project. The plan includes the future creation of a museum to preserve Aparicio's legacy and memorabilia, as well as the restoration of the Alejandro Borges stadium to support local sports development.
