Marçal denounced by STJD following expulsion in Botafogo match

The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has filed a complaint against Botafogo left-back Marçal following his expulsion during a 1-1 draw against Fluminense in the 22nd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Marçal received a red card after leaving the bench to aggressively protest officiating decisions. The complaint alleges a violation of Article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice, which pertains to disrespecting refereeing staff. According to the match official, Bruno Arleu de Araújo, the player persisted in complaining after receiving a yellow card.

As a result of the disciplinary action, Marçal faces a potential suspension of between two and six matches. He will be unavailable for Botafogo’s upcoming match against Vitória.
