Maranhão political leader Orleans Brandão backs Pedro Lucas for Senate

Orleans Brandão, the pre‑candidate for governor of Maranhão (MDB), and vice‑governor hopeful Edivaldo Holanda launched the pre‑candidacy of federal deputy Pedro Lucas Fernandes (União Brasil) for the Senate on Saturday. Lucas will be the second name on the ticket, running alongside Wéverton Rocha. Brandão said Lucas "adds to our composition, brings experience and commitment to Maranhão" and highlighted his record on issues such as cancer control and highway construction. Lucas pledged to adopt a "municipalist" approach in the Senate, staying close to municipalities and supporting the state administration led by Governor Carlos Brandão. Vice‑governor candidate Holanda echoed the sentiment, stating that Lucas’s presence will strengthen the team’s work for the state.
