Brazil's STF Minister Flávio Dino Sends Leaders' Statements to Federal Police

Supreme Court minister Flávio Dino ordered the Federal Police to receive the explanations submitted by the presidents of the Liberal Party (PL) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) regarding their influence over the allocation of parliamentary amendments. The PL president, former deputy Valdemar Costa Neto, and PSD president Gilberto Kassab sent written statements that Dino forwarded to the police, stating the documents are relevant for ongoing investigations. Earlier, Dino blocked R$ 119 million in assets belonging to Valdemar Costa Neto over suspicions of irregular amendment indications, a step taken as part of Operation Transparência, which probes alleged misappropriation of amendment funds. Both leaders asserted they have no formal control: Valdemar said, "the national president of the Liberal Party does not have a quota, reserve, or legal mechanism to allocate amendments," while Kassab declared, "the PSD presidency never interfered in the deliberation of amendment allocation."
