Maranhão towns host and celebrate regional school sports games
Santa Helena in Maranhão hosted the regional stage of the Jogos Escolares Maranhenses (JEMs) from July 21 to 28 at Estádio Lobatão. Mayor Joãozinho Pavão opened the event, distributed new shoes, socks, shin guards, knee pads and uniforms to participating student teams, and highlighted the municipality’s commitment to youth sport.
In the same competition, the delegation from Godofredo Viana concluded its participation after ten days of contests in athletics and futsal. Athletes secured silver and bronze medals in track events, a runner‑up trophy in girls’ futsal, and third place in boys’ futsal. Mayor Márcio Viana and municipal officials praised the results as evidence of continued investment in education‑sport integration.
Both municipalities used the games to reinforce local support for student athletics, describing sport as a tool for discipline, opportunity and community pride.
