Marche region faces critical blood shortage

A serious shortage of blood supplies has been reported in the Marche region of Italy. Dr. Salvoni, head of the Regional Blood Center, issued an alarm regarding the sharp decrease in available stocks during the summer months.

High temperatures and the summer holiday season are cited as primary factors contributing to the decline in donations. Daniele Ragnetti, president of the regional Avis, has called on eligible donors to schedule periodic donations to help achieve year-round self-sufficiency and address the current emergency.

The shortage follows a controversial incident in March, where hundreds of bags of blood and plasma were discarded at the Torrette regional hospital due to staffing shortages or organizational dysfunctions.
