Marche region reports rise in workplace injuries, diseases

Data from INAIL for the first half of 2026 show a 1.13% increase in reported workplace injuries in Italy's Marche region, with 8,569 claims compared with the same period in 2025. Commuting accidents also rose 1.67% to 1,282 cases.

Occupational disease reports jumped 20.75% to 4,970, affecting both industry and services as well as agriculture. The surge is evident across all provinces, with the highest increases in Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata and Pesaro‑Urbino. The most affected age groups are 30‑39 and 50‑54 years. Fatal workplace incidents rose to 11 deaths, up from 10 the previous year.

Cisl Marche, led by secretary‑general Marco Ferracuti, warned that the figures underscore a need for stronger prevention, better risk assessment and collaboration among employers, trade unions, the regional government and INAIL. The union also urged greater use of public transport for commuting and highlighted INAIL incentives for companies investing in safety technology.
