Marche region signs protocol to curb floods in Loreto and Porto Recanati

A protocol on hydraulic risk mitigation was signed in Ancona by the Regione Marche, the municipalities of Loreto and Porto Recanati, the Delegazione Pontificia and the Fondazione Opere Laiche. The agreement targets flood‑prone basins of the Rio Bellaluce (Fiumarella), the Acquabona ditch and the Viale dei Pini area, and includes the expansion of existing laminating basins, construction of new water‑storage reservoirs, improvement of road and rail crossings, and a dedicated master plan for the Fiumarella.

Present at the signing were regional assessor for civil protection Tiziano Consoli, mayors Moreno Pieroni (Loreto) and Andrea Michelini (Porto Recanati), civil‑protection director Stefano Stefoni, Delegazione Pontificia secretary General Giorgia Carone, and foundation president Ferdinando Manzotti. The officials described the pact as a historic, strategic step to provide a structural response to recurring September 2024 floods that caused significant damage to residents, businesses and infrastructure, aiming to increase safety and resilience for the coastal community.
