Marchesi Antinori hit by historic €5 million wine heist in Tuscany
A group of at least seven masked thieves executed a highly organized heist at the Marchesi Antinori storage facility near Cortona, Tuscany, stealing approximately 30,000 bottles of high-end wine. The stolen inventory consists entirely of the 2023 vintage and includes flagship brands such as Solaia, Tignanello, and Guado al Tasso. The loss is estimated at 5 million euros (approximately $5.8 million), marking what the producer described as the largest wine theft in Italian history.
According to CEO Renzo Cotarella, the perpetrators disabled alarm systems and surveillance cameras before entering the facility. The gang reportedly used the winery’s own forklifts to load the wine onto two large trucks to facilitate their escape.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and examining whether the group is linked to other recent winery thefts in the region. Marchesi Antinori has issued a global warning to customers to remain vigilant against suspicious offers of these specific vintages appearing outside of authorized sales channels.
