Marchesi Antinori wine heist in Tuscany
Overview
A highly organized heist occurred at the Marchesi Antinori storage facility near Cortona, Tuscany, resulting in the theft of approximately 30,000 bottles of high-end 2023 vintage wine. The stolen inventory includes flagship brands such as Solaia, Tignanello, and Guado al Tasso, with an estimated value of roughly €5 million.
According to CEO Renzo Cotarella, at least seven masked individuals disabled alarm systems and surveillance cameras before entering the logistics warehouse. The perpetrators reportedly used the winery’s own forklifts to load the wine onto two large trucks. The theft took place on a Saturday when no employees were present, and the loss was discovered when staff returned on Monday.
The stolen goods were reportedly packaged and awaiting shipment to international markets, including France and the United States. While the incident is described as one of the largest wine thefts in Italian history, officials noted that it should not affect upcoming wine releases in certain regions, such as Ontario, Canada.
