Marchesi Antinori winery hit by massive €5m wine theft in Tuscany

At least seven masked individuals carried out a highly organized theft at the Marchesi Antinori winery in Cortona, Tuscany. The thieves stole approximately 30,000 bottles of premium 2023 vintage wine, including the Solaia, Tignanello, and Guado al Tasso labels.

The operation, which took about three hours, involved deactivating alarm systems and security cameras from within the facility. The perpetrators used the company’s own forklifts to load the stolen goods into two large trucks. The theft was discovered on a Monday morning when staff arrived at the warehouse, which had been prepared for an upcoming export shipment.

CEO Renzo Cotarella described the incident as the largest wine theft of its kind in Italian history. The total value of the stolen wine is estimated at approximately €5 million for European markets and $8.2 million for US markets. The company has issued a global warning to customers and distributors to be vigilant against any offers of these specific labels through unofficial channels.
