PiS expels 40 politicians including Mateusz Morawiecki
The Law and Justice (PiS) party has undergone a major internal split following a decision by its disciplinary organ to expel 40 politicians. The group, which includes former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, is accused of violating party statutes by leaving the PiS parliamentary club to form a new group. The expulsion specifically involves 38 members of the Sejm and two senators.
Morawiecki was singled out for publicly announcing the creation of a competing political party, which he intends to formally establish by October 15. The new initiative, known as Rozwój Plus, focuses on economic development and local government empowerment.
Several local leaders have already signaled their support for the new movement. Marcin Witko, President of Tomaszów Mazowiecki, and Łukasz Nowak, President of Tarnobrzeg, have joined the Rozwój Plus association. Krystian Kinastowski, President of Kalisz, is also expected to join. The expelled members have seven days to appeal the decision.
