PiS expels Mateusz Morawiecki and 40 politicians

The Law and Justice (PiS) party has officially expelled former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and 38 MPs and two senators following a major internal split. The disciplinary body ruled that the politicians committed a serious violation of party statutes by leaving the PiS parliamentary club to join a new parliamentary group associated with the Rozwój Plus association.

Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus initiative aims to present a more moderate, center-right vision focused on economic development rather than ideological disputes. This movement has gained momentum among local government leaders; several city presidents, including those from Kalisz, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, and Tarnobrzeg, have joined or expressed intent to join the association.

The split follows an ultimatum from PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, who demanded members renounce participation in external political organizations. The resulting fracture has significantly impacted PiS's standing, as it is no longer the largest parliamentary club in the Sejm. The expelled politicians have seven days to appeal the decision.
