Marco Accetti under investigation in Emanuela Orlandi case

New investigations have placed Roman photographer Marco Accetti back on the register of suspects in the Emanuela Orlandi kidnapping case. Accetti is being investigated by the Rome Prosecutor's Office for kidnapping for the purpose of extortion.

Recent footage from May 2024 shows Accetti at a birthday party in central Rome interacting with young women of a similar age to Orlandi at the time of her disappearance. The investigation is also revisiting a flute that Accetti previously claimed belonged to Orlandi; forensic experts from the RIS di Roma are currently conducting further tests to verify the object's origin.

Accetti previously gained notoriety in 2013 when he claimed to be the mysterious ‘Americano’ who contacted the Orlandi family following the disappearance of the Vatican citizen. While a psychiatric evaluation found him legally competent, it also described him as having a personality strongly driven by a need for attention.
