Amazonas Governor appoints Marco Aurélio Choy as TJAM desembargador
In Amazonas, Governor Roberto Cidade has appointed lawyer Marco Aurélio Choy as a desembargador for the Tribunal de Justiça do Amazonas (TJAM). Choy was selected from a triple list via the Quinto Constitucional, a mechanism that reserves judicial seats for members of the legal profession. He succeeds Domingos Jorge Chalub Pereira, who retired upon reaching the mandatory age.
Separately, the Tribunal de Contas do Amazonas (TCE-AM) has taken several administrative actions. The court unanimously rejected the 2023 accounts of former Careiro mayor Nathan Macena de Souza, ordering him to return R$ 393,026.60 to the public treasury due to irregularities in construction materials and insufficient documentation. Additionally, the TCE-AM president, Yara Amazônia Lins, delivered a list of approximately 321 managers with irregular accounts to the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-AM) to assist in the application of the 'Lei da Ficha Limpa' (Clean Slate Law).
Furthermore, the TCE-AM has renewed its Technical Cooperation Agreement with the Public Management Control Network to enhance joint inspections, combat corruption, and improve information sharing among state and federal oversight bodies.
