Marco Rubio Schedules U.S. Summit on Political Violence, Mexico Not Invited

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a ministerial summit on the resurgence of political violence to be held in Washington on July 15. The meeting will invite representatives from more than 60 countries across the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Asia and will focus on combating what the State Department describes as transnational terrorism by extremist left‑wing, anti‑American and radical groups, as well as violent right‑wing movements.

Mexico has not been listed among the invited governments, repeating its exclusion from earlier U.S.-led security gatherings such as the “Shield of the Americas” summit in March. No official comment has been provided by the U.S. State Department or Mexico’s foreign ministry explaining the omission, raising questions about Washington’s approach to regional security cooperation with the country most affected by cartel‑related violence.
