Marco Rubio threatens to abolish International Criminal Court

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has threatened to abolish the International Criminal Court (ICC) if the institution does not cease what he describes as threats against American citizens. Following the Trump administration's decision to impose sanctions on the court, Rubio stated in a video message that the United States will prohibit transactions with the ICC and withhold resources to prevent it from acting against Americans.

Rubio asserted that the US and its people do not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC, which he characterized as a “rogue court.” He warned that if allies do not restrain the institution, the United States will continue a campaign to dismantle the ICC piece by piece. The sanctions were announced shortly after South African jurist Navi Pillay, a former ICC Appeals Chamber judge, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
