Marco van Basten celebrates 62nd birthday
Dutch football legend Marco van Basten is celebrating his 62nd birthday. Born in Utrecht on October 31, 1964, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers in football history.
Van Basten rose to prominence at Ajax, where he won multiple Dutch league titles and the European Cup Winners' Cup. His career reached international heights in 1988 when he scored a famous volley in the Euro 1988 final to help the Netherlands defeat the Soviet Union. He later moved to AC Milan, where he achieved significant success, including two Champions League titles and three Italian league championships.
Despite a career cut short by serious ankle injuries, leading to his retirement in 1995, Van Basten transitioned into coaching. He has managed the Dutch national team, Ajax, and Heerenveen.
