Marfin Bank arson investigation enters final stages

The judicial investigation into the fatal arson attack on Marfin Bank is nearing completion following the supplementary testimony of the third defendant. The 42-year-old individual returned to prison on Friday, October 23, after questioning by the 3rd Investigating Magistrate of Athens.

The investigation has been upgraded following a supplementary criminal prosecution. The three defendants now face charges of multiple homicides committed within the context of a terrorist act, as well as 24 counts of attempted murder targeting bank employees present during the May 5, 2010, attack. The incident resulted in the deaths of three employees, including a pregnant woman.

All three suspects, including a 46-year-old woman and two men, have denied involvement in the arson. The investigating magistrate is expected to conclude the inquiry soon, after which the case will be referred to the prosecutor to determine if the defendants should be sent to the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies.
