Margate, Florida: Mother and daughter killed in lightning strike

A 31-year-old woman, Kenya Glasgow, and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedi, were killed by a lightning strike in Margate, Florida, on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Northwest First Street as the family attempted to seek shelter from worsening weather.

Kameron Glasgow, the husband of Kenya and father of the children, reported that the family had arrived at a relative's home when the weather turned. He was standing nearby when the strike occurred. First responders from the Margate Police Department and Margate Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the mother and child before transporting them to North Broward Medical Center and Broward Health Medical Center, respectively. Both succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.

Local reports indicate significant lightning activity in the area, with approximately 120 strikes recorded within 10 miles of Margate during a 30-minute window on Sunday. This incident marks the fourth lightning-related death in Florida this year.
