Fatal lightning strike in Margate, Florida

On a Sunday afternoon in Margate, Florida, a 31-year-old woman, Kenya Glasgow, and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedi, were killed by a lightning strike while attempting to seek shelter from intensifying thunderstorms.

The incident occurred near Northwest First Street as the family was arriving at a relative’s home. The victims had just exited their vehicle when the strike occurred. First responders from the Margate Police Department and Margate Fire Rescue performed CPR at the scene before transporting the mother and child to separate medical centers in Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Both were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Kameron Glasgow, the husband and father, survived the strike. Local reports noted significant lightning activity in the region, with approximately 120 strikes recorded within a 10-mile radius of Margate during a 30-minute window on the day of the incident. This event marks the fourth lightning-related death in Florida this year.
