Maria do Carmo's campaign hits internal PL rift ahead of Amazonas governor race

Maria do Carmo, the PL pre‑candidate for the governorship of Amazonas, is confronting growing fractures within her party. Federal deputy Capitão Alberto Neto, also seeking the Senate, has stopped attending her campaign events and shifted his focus to municipalities allied with his own Senate bid, signalling a split after the two shared a ticket in the 2024 Manaus mayoral race. The tension also involves state deputy Péricles, another PL member, whose feud with Maria do Carmo has become public through accusations and disputes over a legislative proposal.

Amid the intra‑party turmoil, Maria do Carmo continued her pre‑campaign tour of key municipalities in the Greater Manaus region, visiting Manaquiri, Presidente Figueiredo and Iranduba. In each town she highlighted local development needs – infrastructure for agriculture in Manaquiri, sustainable tourism in Presidente Figueiredo, and criticized the abandoned University of the State of Amazonas campus in Iranduba as a symbol of wasteful politics. She called for increased investment and a government plan built on the specific potentials of each municipality, emphasizing that Amazonian progress depends on strengthening the interior as well as the capital.
