Maria Karystianou Expels Thanasis Avgerinos from Hope for Democracy
The president of the Greek political movement Hope for Democracy, Maria Karystianou, announced the expulsion of former spokesperson Thanasis Avgerinos. Avgerinos had resigned from the press‑office role, accusing the party of “parallel press offices” and “planted advisors”. In a televised interview Karystianou called his departure “a sign of character” and condemned his statements as “divisive” that violated the movement’s core principle of non‑cooperation with established parties. She stressed that the movement will remain strong and continue its agenda, urging members to protect its unity.
Karystianou’s statements were repeated in multiple outlets, emphasizing that anyone whose views no longer align with the party’s strict ethical line should leave, and that internal dissent would only strengthen the organization’s resolve.
