Maria Syrengela criticises PASOK's oil price promises

New Democracy MP Maria Syrengela, representing Athens B2, told ERT that PASOK’s statements on rising oil and gasoline prices lack any cost‑calculation. She said the party “pretends it can press a magic button and everything will be perfect,” ignoring the global Brent Crude benchmark that sets prices. Syrengela added that PASOK relies on populist rhetoric, citing its recent pledge to introduce a 13th pension instalment without explaining how it would be funded. She urged the party to submit its proposal to the General Accounting Office for a detailed fiscal assessment. Syrengela also disputed PASOK’s claim that lowering VAT on basic goods would save consumers, noting that the reduction would amount to less than €5 a month when calculated.
