Mariano Páez detained for theft in Santiago del Estero

Mariano Páez and his partner, María Emilia Soledad Batule, remain in custody following the theft of 1.5 million pesos from a construction materials store in Termas de Río Hondo, Santiago del Estero.

Security footage from the Lo Bruno store reportedly shows the incident occurring on October 10. Investigators allege that Páez exploited a distraction while a cashier was counting cash to reach through a service window and take the money, subsequently handing it to Batule.

Following a raid in the Alberdi neighborhood, police seized 632,600 pesos in cash and a Toyota RAV4. While Páez’s defense attorney, Sebastián Robles, has requested his client's release by offering economic reparation to the business, the prosecution intends to oppose the request. Under Article 162 of the Argentine Penal Code, the charge of theft carries a potential prison sentence of one month to two years.
