Theft investigation in Santiago del Estero

Overview

Mariano Páez, a transport entrepreneur, and his partner, María Emilia Soledad Batule, were arrested following an alleged robbery at a Lo Bruno construction materials store in Termas de Río Hondo on October 10.

Investigators allege that Páez seized approximately 1.5 million pesos in cash from a counter during an employee distraction and handed the money to Batule before fleeing. Security camera footage was used to identify the suspects, leading to police raids in the Alberdi neighborhood. During these operations, authorities seized 632,600 pesos and a Toyota RAV4.

As the legal process continues, Páez’s defense attorney has requested his release by offering economic reparation to the business. However, the prosecution intends to oppose this request. Under Article 162 of the Argentine Penal Code, the theft charge carries a potential prison sentence of one month to two years.
