Marib targeted by series of Houthi ballistic missile attacks
The Houthi militia has intensified military strikes against the heavily populated Marib governorate in Yemen, utilizing multiple ballistic missiles. Local authorities reported that Marib was targeted by four ballistic missiles in a recent attack, following another strike involving eight missiles within a 24-hour period. In total, approximately 21 ballistic missiles have targeted the province in less than a week.
These attacks have targeted residential neighborhoods and areas near displaced persons' camps, causing widespread panic. Humanitarian organizations have issued urgent warnings regarding the targeting of civilians and public markets, noting that such actions violate international humanitarian law and threaten millions of displaced people who rely on Marib as a refuge.
Marib holds significant strategic importance as a primary stronghold for the internationally recognized government and a major center for displaced populations. The region is also economically vital due to its oil and gas resources. In response to the escalation, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi affirmed that the ‘Dawn of Yemen’ operation will continue to achieve its objectives.
