Maribor begins construction of new Pekrski stream park

The Municipality of Maribor is developing a new urban park along the Pekrski stream, covering approximately 2.6 hectares. The project, which involves an 800-meter stretch between Kardeljeva Street and Pohorskega odreda Street, is valued at 3.2 million euros. Nearly 2.9 million euros of the investment is co-financed through the CTN system.

Construction is currently in its first phase, involving excavations and embankments for paths. The design features an asphalted cycling path on the right bank, suitable for bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs, and a network of permeable walking paths made of water-bound sand on the left bank. The park will also include a 900-square-meter pump track, children's playgrounds, and outdoor fitness equipment.

Environmental efforts include planting approximately 240 new trees and relocating 50 trees from a previous project to their permanent locations. Project leader Jernej Gruber noted that planting activities are timed to coincide with favorable weather conditions in late autumn and spring.
